About the Board

The Counsellors and Psychologists Board (CPB) is a State Corporation established under Section 4 of the Counsellors and Psychologists Act, No. 14 of 2014 (Cap. 253C).

We fall under the State Department for Public Health and Professional Standards within the Ministry of Health. Our mandate is to regulate the training, registration, licensing and practice of counsellors and psychologists in Kenya — safeguarding public interest and building trust in the counselling and psychology professions.

A society with quality mental health and wellness through ethical counselling and psychology practice.

Mission

To safeguard the public through ethical regulation of the training, registration and practice of counsellors and psychologists.

Mandate

Under Section 5 of the Act, the Board is mandated to:

• Register and license counsellors and psychologists practising in Kenya
• Accredit training institutions offering counselling and psychology programmes
• Enforce the Code of Professional Ethics and standards of practice
• Coordinate continuous professional development (CPD)
• Investigate and adjudicate complaints against registered practitioners
• Maintain a register of counsellors and psychologists open to the public
• Advise the Cabinet Secretary on policy matters relating to the professions
