Under Section 28 of the Counsellors and Psychologists Act, any person practising counselling or psychology in Kenya must be registered and licensed by the Board. Applications are accepted from Kenyan citizens, East African Community citizens and other nationalities.

Kenyan Citizens

Standard registration pathway for Kenyan-trained and diaspora practitioners. Applicants submit certified copies of academic qualifications, a signed declaration of good moral character, and proof of Kenyan citizenship.

East African Community

Applicants from EAC member states may apply under mutual recognition arrangements. Additional documentation includes a certificate of good standing from the home country regulator.

Other Nationalities

Applicants from other jurisdictions must submit qualifications for equivalence verification, a certificate of good standing, and a valid work permit issued by the Directorate of Immigration Services.

Application Requirements

  • Certified copies of academic certificates and transcripts
  • Certified copy of national identity card, passport or work permit
  • Two recent passport-size photographs
  • A recommendation letter from a currently registered practitioner
  • Certificate of Good Conduct from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations
  • Detailed curriculum vitae
  • Payment of the prescribed application fee

Steps to Apply

Gather and certify all required documents.

Submit through the CPB registration portal or the Board offices.

Pay Fees

Pay the application fee via the prescribed channels.

Await Review

Applications are reviewed by the Registration Committee.

Receive Certificate

Successful applicants receive a Certificate of Registration and Licence.
